• 2024-04-22: 700+ total items with more than 21k triples. It's probably already the largest linked data collection about dancing ever made and we are just getting started!
• 2024-04-21: 30 events totalt har importerats med rik metadata som möjliggör sökning både utifrån geografiska läge, dsnsstil, artist, arrangör, m.m.
• 2026-04-20: Import från cogwork (dans.se) har påbörjats.
• 2026-04-19: Manual cleanup of ~30 venue items that had wrong coordinates and external ids because of a bug in the import code.
• 2026-04-13: Enriched Venue items with links to https://www.folketshusochparker.se/
• 2026-04-12: Enriched Venue items with links to https://bygdegardarna.se/hitta-bygdegard/. Descriptions were updated.
• 2026-04-12: User:Admin/ClaimMaps.js now supports Google Maps and CoMaps also for directions on mobile.

About

Dance Database is a growing database of all dance events in the world. It is multi-lingual and supports searching by coordinates, dance styles, dates, etc.

• Make it dead simple to create events based on the data (e.g. in Facebook/Hudd)
• Make a simple frontend to help event creators easily create events and disseminate them
• Make a simple frontend to search/consume data from the database about events based on distance/dance style, etc.

Workflow for organizers

1. creates an event in dans.se or onbeat.dance (or other supported source)
2. triggers scraping via the frontend
3. disseminate the event to facebook or other walled garden to raise interest with dancers

User stories

• as a dancer I want all event data in a single place that I can search with SPARQL
• as a dancer I want a website to show me all the dances near me
• as a dancer I want to show interest in social media for a dance I'm interested in
• as a dance organizer I want to enter the event data in only one place and disseminate it with a minimum of clicks and hassle

Purpose

Nobody likes copy-pasting! Currently, there is no good single source of information for social dance events in Scandinavia. Organizers struggle to reach dancers

Dancers struggle to get an overview and plan because information is spread in hundreds of websites

• lack of findability and discoverability
